Experience the unique charm of the Marangu Route, the only path on Kilimanjaro offering comfortable hut accommodations all the way to the summit. This classic trek is your gateway to conquering Africa’s Roof, supported every step of the way by your expert Friends of Nature guides.
Touch down at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), where a warm welcome awaits. We’ll transfer you to a comfortable hotel in Moshi for a pre-trek briefing. Rest, relax by the pool, and mentally prepare for the incredible journey ahead.
After breakfast, we drive to the vibrant Marangu Gate. Your adventure begins with a scenic trek through Kilimanjaro’s enchanting rainforest. Listen for the calls of colobus monkeys as you make your way to Mandara Hut, your first cozy mountain accommodation.
Trekking: 5-6 hours | Distance: 11 km
Today, you’ll leave the forest behind and emerge into the stunning alpine moorland. The landscape opens up, granting you breathtaking first views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. An afternoon acclimatization walk near Horombo Hut is key to preparing your body for the higher altitudes.
Trekking: 6 hours | Distance: 11 km
The trek continues across the lunar-like Saddle, a high-altitude desert between the two peaks. Today’s goal is Kibo Hut, your basecamp for the final ascent. Rest, hydrate, and have an early dinner—your summit push begins at midnight!
Trekking: 4-8 hours | Distance: 10 km
This is it! Under a blanket of stars, you begin the final climb. With your guide’s unwavering support, you’ll conquer the steep scree slopes to Gilman’s Point and then along the crater rim to the summit—Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Celebrate your incredible achievement at the Roof of Africa before a rewarding descent back to Horombo Hut.
Summit Trek: 9-12 hours | Distance: 16 km
After a final mountain breakfast, we make a cheerful descent through the lush landscape back to Marangu Gate. Here, we’ll celebrate your success and present you with your official certificate. A transfer back to the hotel and a well-deserved hot shower await!
Trekking: 5-6 hours | Distance: 18 km
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast. We’ll transfer you to the airport for your flight home, or better yet, begin the next chapter of your Tanzanian adventure—a thrilling wildlife safari or a relaxing Zanzibar beach holiday with us!
